A man who conspired to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine was sentenced October 19, 2010, to more than 24 years in federal prison.
Tony Brand, 40, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, received the prison term after March 25, 2010, guilty pleas to one count of conspiring to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine and one count of manufacturing and attempting to manufacture methamphetamine. Brand was previously convicted of possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine on July 30, 2001, in the Iowa District Court for Wright County. Brand was also previously convicted of possession of a precursor with intent to manufacture methamphetamine on January 13, 2005, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp on December 13, 1999, both in Webster County, Iowa, District Court.
At the guilty plea, Brand admitted he conspired to manufacture and distribute more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area from about January 2009 through October 2009. Brand also admitted he was a career offender with four prior felony drug convictions.
Brand was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Brand was sentenced to 290 months’ imprisonment, and a special assessment of $200 was imposed. He must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Brand is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Fort Dodge Police Department, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
