
Guatemalan man pleads guilty to illegal re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Guatemala pled guilty on October 18, 2010, in federal court in Sioux City.
Ever Alvarez-Rucu, age 33, from Guatemala, was convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At the plea hearing, Alvarez-Rucu admitted he was an illegal alien from Guatemala present in the United States without permission. He had been previously removed from the United States on July 7, 2007. Alvarez-Rucu was arrested in Crawford County, Iowa, on August 11, 2010, for identity theft and tampering with records.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Alvarez-Rucu remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Alvarez-Rucu faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
