An over-the-road trucker who took a child from Iowa to Kansas for the purpose of having sex with her was sentenced today to more than 24 years in federal prison.

Brandin Christian Hagen, age 28, from Fredericksburg, Iowa, received the prison term after an April 2, 2010, guilty plea to one count of transporting a child in interstate commerce with intent the child engage in unlawful sexual activity.

In a plea agreement, Hagen admitted that, in the Fall of 2009, he transported a 13-year-old girl from Iowa to Bonner Springs, Kansas, with the intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity with the child. Hagen transported the child in a semi tractor-trailer and had sexual intercourse with her in the sleeper compartment of the truck.

A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he was ordered to make $4,192 in restitution to the victim’s legal guardian for costs associated with the victim’s medical treatment. He must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term and register as a sex offender. There is no parole in the federal system.

Hagen is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter Deegan and was investigated by the Chickasaw County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
