
Mexican man sentenced to prison for illegal re-Entry

Three men who illegally entered the United States from Mexico were sentenced on October 19, 2010, to federal prison.
Pastor Mendez-Sanchez, age 38, from Mexico and living in Sibley, Iowa, received a prison term after a September 15, 2010, guilty plea to one count of illegally
re-entering the United States.
Luis Diaz-Ramirez, age 23, from Mexico, received a prison term after a September 20, 2010, guilty plea to one count of illegally re-entering the United States.
Alex Perez-Martinez, age 21, from Mexico, received a prison term after a July 22, 2010, guilty plea to one count of illegally re-entering the United States.
Mendez-Sanchez admitted he illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after being deported in June of 2005. On July 27, 2010, Mendez-Sanchez was arrested in Osceola County, Iowa, and charged with domestic abuse assault.
Diaz-Ramirez admitted he illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after being deported in April of 2008. Diaz-Ramirez was arrested on July 10, 2010, in Woodbury County, Iowa, and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and having no insurance.
Perez-Martinez admitted he illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after being deported in January of 2009 following a December 4, 2008, conviction for identity theft in Sioux County. Perez-Martinez was arrested on May 7, 2010, by the Sioux Center, Iowa, Police Department for public intoxication and obstructing prosecution
Mendez-Sanchez and Diaz-Ramirez were sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Mendez-Sanchez was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment and Diaz-Ramirez was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Both must also serve a one-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
Perez-Martinez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Donald E. O’Brien. Perez-Martinez was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, and a special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a two-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
There is no parole in the federal system. The men will be subject to removal from the United States after they complete their prison sentences.
The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
