des moines man pleads guilty to meth conspiracy

A man who conspired to distribute methamphetamine in north-central Iowa pled guilty on October 25, 2010, in federal court in Sioux City.

Shadd Henderson, 38, from Des Moines, Iowa, was convicted of one count of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and one count of distributing methamphetamine. Henderson was previously convicted of delivery of methamphetamine in the Iowa District Court for Boone County on November 13, 2007.

At the plea hearing, Henderson admitted he conspired to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine in the Webster County, Iowa, area from 2005 through December 2008. On two occasions, once in November and once in December 2008, Henderson distributed a total of 50 grams of methamphetamine to an individual cooperating with law enforcement.

Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Henderson remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. On the conspiracy conviction, Henderson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $4,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and 8 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment. On the distribution conviction, Henderson faces a possible sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment, a $2,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and 6 years up to life of supervised release.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Dodge Police Department.
