Fairfax Man Gets More Than 17 Years For Selling

A man who had three prior drug trafficking convictions and who sold crack cocaine to an undercover agent was sentenced April 28, 2011, to more than 17 years in federal prison.

Anton Cross, 32, from Fairfax, Iowa, received the prison term after an October 14, 2010, guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine.

At the guilty plea, Cross admitted he conspired with others to distribute crack cocaine in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, during May and June 2010, and that he sold crack cocaine to an undercover agent. Cross had previously been convicted in Cook County, Illinois, of delivery of heroin and cocaine near a protected location in 1997; delivery of cocaine in 1999; and delivery of cocaine near a protected location in 1999. Cross was also convicted of burglary in Linn County, Iowa, in 2004.

Cross was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Cross was sentenced to 211 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Cross is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Tvedt and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force which consists of members of the DEA; Linn County Sheriff's Office; Cedar Rapids Police Department; Marion Police Department; Iowa City Police Department; Clinton Police Department; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; and Iowa National Guard.
