A Winnebago County woman was sentenced August 22, 2011, to 12 years in federal prison for her role in a Mason City area methamphetamine conspiracy.
Rebecca Sogard, age 49, of Leland, Iowa, received her prison term after a February 11, 2011, guilty plea to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.
Information provided by the United States at the sentencing and change of plea hearing revealed that, during the conspiracy between May 2005 and December 2010, Sogard received multiple ounce quantities of methamphetamine and distributed it to numerous others. Sogard personally distributed over 50 grams of pure methamphetamine. Sogard was previously convicted of a felony drug offense in Dakota County, Nebraska, on March 20, 2005.
Sogard was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Sogard was sentenced to 144 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. She must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Sogard is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
