
two Cherokee Men Plead Guilty To Child Pornography Charges

Two men charged with child pornography offenses pled guilty on December 13, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.
Donald Coffey, age 23, from Cherokee, Iowa, was convicted of one count of possessing child pornography and one count of accessing with intent to view child pornography. Justin Slattery, age 26, also from Cherokee, was convicted of one count of possessing child pornography.
At his plea hearing, Coffey admitted that, in November 2010, he possessed and accessed with intent to view depictions of child pornography on a micro SD card. At his plea hearing, Slattery admitted that, in November 2010, he possessed depictions of child pornography on a micro SD card.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Coffey and Slattery remain in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. In plea agreements, Coffey agreed to be sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and Slattery agreed to be sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment. Coffey faces a maximum fine of $500,000, $200 in special assessments, and supervised release for 5 years to life following his imprisonment. Slattery faces a maximum fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and supervised release for 5 years to life following his imprisonment.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Cherokee Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
