Three Illegal aliens plead guilty to illegal re-Entry

Three men who illegally re-entered the United States from Honduras and Guatemala pled guilty on February 4, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.

Juan Corrales-Santos, age 25, from Honduras; Sergio Diaz-Perez, age 32, from Guatemala; and Rodulfo Perez-Escalente, age 22, from Guatemala, were each convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.

At the plea hearings, the men admitted they were illegal aliens present in the United States without permission.

Corrales-Santos had been previously removed from the United States on July 30, 2008. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Sioux County, Iowa, jail on December 15, 2010, while he was incarcerated for no driver’s license, no insurance, and failure to report an accident.

Diaz-Perez been previously removed from the United States on October 19, 2009. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Emmet County, Iowa, jail on November 25, 2010, while he was incarcerated for domestic assault.

Perez-Escalente had been previously removed from the United States on August 19, 2006. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Sioux County, Iowa, jail on December 13, 2010, while he was incarcerated for public intoxication.

Sentencings before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after presentence reports are prepared. The three men remain in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. They face up to 2 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and were investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
