A man who was a felon and had three guns in his kitchen closet was sentenced on February 9, 2011, to more than six years in federal prison.

Larry Huston, age 42, from Anamosa, Iowa, received the prison term after a September 3, 2010, guilty plea to one charge of being a felon in possession of firearms.
On December 11, 2008, Anamosa Police Officers conducted a consent search at Huston’s residence. The officers located two shotguns and a .22 caliber/.410 gauge combination rifle/shotgun in a small closet in the kitchen. Huston previously had multiple convictions for felonies for Burglary, Forgery, and Second Degree Theft and also had escapes in his record.

Huston was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Huston was sentenced to 78 months’ imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment was imposed. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Huston is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Anamosa Police Department.
