
Cedar Rapids Felon With Gun Pleads Guilty

A felon and domestic abuser who had a handgun pled guilty on February 10, 2011, in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Michael Mease, age 31, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was convicted of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On April 3, 2010, in Cedar Rapids, Mease possessed a Llama 9mm pistol. On February 3, 2006, Mease had been convicted of felony Third Degree Burglary of a residence, and on December 21, 2001, he had been convicted of two counts of aggravated misdemeanor Assault Causing Bodily Injury (Domestic Abuse).
Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Mease remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Mease faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment without the possibility of parole, a fine of up to $250,000, a mandatory special assessment of $100, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
