cedar rapids man sentenced for possessing child pornography

A man who possessed computer images of child pornography was sentenced today to five years’ federal probation.

Thomas Paul Stevenson, age 51, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the sentence after an August 30, 2010, guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography.

In a plea agreement, Stevenson admitted that, on December 21, 2009, he possessed images of child pornography at his home in Cedar Rapids. Stevenson possessed the images on an external computer hard drive.

Stevenson was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Stevenson was sentenced to 5 years’ probation and fined $12,500. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also register as a sex offender.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter Deegan and was investigated by the Cedar Rapid Police Department and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
