clarence man sentenced to nine years in prison for manufacturing methamphetamine near a school

A man who manufactured methamphetamine near a school was sentenced February 16, 2010, to nine years in federal prison.

Gary Greathouse, age 38, from Clarence, Iowa, received the prison term after a July 23, 2010, guilty plea to one count of manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school.

At the plea hearing, Greathouse admitted that, on January 20-21, 2010, he manufactured methamphetamine at his home that was within 1,000 feet of North Cedar Community Middle School in Clarence.

Greathouse was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Greathouse was sentenced to 108 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a six-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Greathouse is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, the Muscatine Drug Task Force, and the Iowa State Patrol.
