
Mexican man pleads guilty to illegal Re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico pled guilty on January 28, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.
Emilio Jiminez-Meza, age 31, from Mexico, was convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At the plea hearing, Jiminez-Meza admitted he was an illegal alien from Mexico present in the United States without permission. He had been previously removed from the United States on January 21, 2009. Jiminez-Meza was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Woodbury County Jail on November 12, 2010, while he was incarcerated for domestic assault and public intoxication.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Jiminez-Meza remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Jimniez-Meza faces up to 2 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
