A man who possessed and sold firearms and ammunition pled guilty on January 31, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.

Adrian V. Lund, age 19, from Sioux City, Iowa, was convicted of one count of selling and aiding and abetting the sale of stolen firearms and ammunition; one count of possessing and aiding and abetting the possession of firearms with altered serial numbers; and one count of manufacturing and aiding and abetting in the manufacture of a sawed-off shotgun.

At the plea hearing, Lund admitted that, in November of 2009, he and three other individuals committed a burglary of a business in Jefferson, South Dakota. The four entered the business and stole approximately 20 guns. Lund later cut one of the barrels off of a 12 gauge shotgun using a hack saw, traded one of the stolen guns for methamphetamine, and sold one of the stolen guns to an undercover law enforcement agent.

Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Lund was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after the guilty plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing. Lund faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, $300 in special assessments, and 9 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes.
