
Mexican man pleads guilty to illegal re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico pled guilty on January 27, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.
Raphael Madrigal-Marin, age 30, from Mexico, was convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At the plea hearing, Madrigal-Marin admitted he was an illegal alien from Mexico present in the United States without permission. He was previously removed from the United States on October 13, 1998. Madrigal-Marin was arrested in Buena Vista County, Iowa, on October 4, 2010, for forgery and identity theft.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Madrigal-Marin remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Madrigal-Marin faces up to 2 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
