
explosives and firearms lead to federal arrest of sioux city man

Terry Hunter, 55, from Sioux City, Iowa, has been charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charge is contained in a Complaint, filed on January 27, 2011, in United States District Court in Sioux City.
The Complaint alleges that, on January 27, 2011, Hunter possessed a shotgun after being previously convicted of a felony for his involvement in a drug distribution conspiracy. Hunter was arrested after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home and according to the Complaint discovered explosives and firearms on January 27.
If convicted, HUNTER faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
HUNTER appeared on January 27, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City and was held without bond. HUNTER’s next appearance, for a detention hearing and preliminary hearing, is set for February 1, 2011, at 9:00 am.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Homeland Security Investigations; the Tri-State Drug Task Force; the State Fire Marshal’s Office; the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; the Sioux City Police Department; the Sioux City Fire Department; and the Sioux City Fire Marshall’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
