
Man from mexico sentenced to federal prison for illegal re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico was sentenced on July 8, 2011, to 12 months in federal prison.
Emilio Contreras-Rangel, age 33, from Mexico, received the prison term after a June 15, 2011, guilty plea to one count of illegal re-entry.
At the guilty plea, Contreras-Rangel admitted he had been deported from the United States on August 16, 2006. Contreras-Rangel entered Homeland Security
Investigations’ custody on March 23, 2011, while incarcerated in Webster County, Iowa, for failure to appear on an Operating While Intoxicated charge.
Contreras-Rangel was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Contreras-Rangel was sentenced to 12
months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he must also serve a one year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Contreras-Rangel is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and Extraditon Removal.
