Mexican man sentenced to federal prison for illegal re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico was sentenced on July 21, 2011, to 8 months in federal prison.

Antonio Muro-Marquez, age 36, from Mexico, received the prison term after a April 25, 2011, guilty plea to one count of illegal re-entry. At the guilty plea,
Muro-Marquez admitted he was deported from the United States on August 28, 2000. Muro-Marquez came into Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) custody on March 2, 2011, while incarcerated in Sioux County, Iowa, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Muro-Marquez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Donald E. O’Brien. Muro-Marquez was sentenced to 8 months’ imprisonment. He must also serve a 2 year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Muro-Marquez is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by HSI and the Enforcement and Removal Office of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau.
