
Four men sentenced to prison for illegal re-Entry

Four men who illegally re-entered the Untied States from Mexico and Guatemala were sentenced on June 28, 2011, to federal prison.
Manuel Castaneda-Herrera, age 36, from Mexico; Eduardo
Carrasquillo-Montalvo, age 24, from Mexico; Jose Delacruz-Martinez, age 21, from Mexico; and Douglas Juarez-Chilel, age 29, from Guatemala received the prison terms after guilty pleas to one count of illegal re-entry each.
Castaneda-Herrera was previously removed from the United States on September 12, 2006. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in the Woodbury County, Iowa, jail on March 31, 2011, while he was incarcerated for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Carrasquillo-Montalvo was previously removed from the United States on October 29, 2008. He was encountered by HSI in the Woodbury County, Iowa, jail on March 29, 2011, while he was incarcerated for identity theft and forgery.
Delacruz-Martinez was previously removed from the United States on November 13, 2009. He was encountered by HSI in the Wright County, Iowa, jail on March 17, 2011, while he was incarcerated for criminal trespassing.
Juarez-Chilel was previously removed from the United States on February 18, 2009. He was encountered by HSI in the Woodbury County, Iowa, jail on March 22, 2011, while he was incarcerated for no driver’s license and no proof of insurance.
The men were sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Castaneda-Herrera was sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment; Carrasquillo-Montalvo was sentenced to 4 months’ imprisonment; Delacruz-Martinez, was sentenced to 4 months’ imprisonment; and Juarez-Chilel was sentenced to 4
months’ imprisonment. All must serve a 1-year term of supervised release after their prison terms. There is no parole in the federal system.
The men are being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until they can be transported to federal prisons.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by HSI.
