mexican man sentenced to federal prison for using fraudulent identification document to obtain employment

A man who used fraudulent documents to obtain employment was sentenced on June 27, 2011, to time served.

Jose Fernandez, age 29, from Mexico, received the prison term after a May 9, 2011, guilty plea to one count of fraud or misuse of documents to obtain employment.

At the guilty plea, Fernandez admitted that on January 25, 2010, he presented a social security card and an Iowa identification card while applying for employment in Sioux City, knowing the documents were not lawfully issued to him.

Fernandez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Fernandez was sentenced to time served. He must serve a 2 year term of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
