sioux city man to federal prison for heroin conviction

A man who distributed heroin was sentenced July 8, 2011, to 18 months in federal prison.
Andre Bankhead, 44, from Sioux City, Iowa, received the prison term after a March 28, 2011, guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute heroin.
At the guilty plea, Bankhead admitted that he conspired with others to distribute heroin in the Sioux City, area from October 2010 through December 2010. Bankhead acknowledged he and others received heroin and heroin cutting agent in the mail for the purpose of distributing the heroin to others in the Sioux City area.
Bankhead was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Bankhead was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Bankhead is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s office and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force based in Sioux City, Iowa, that consists of law enforcement personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration; Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department; Homeland Security Investigations; Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department; Nebraska State Patrol; Iowa National Guard; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; United States Marshals Service; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.
