
SIXTY-YEAR-OLD DRUG FELON PLEADS GUILTY

A Cedar Rapids man who sold crack cocaine near a school pled guilty on March 9, 2011, in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Roy Williams, 60, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was convicted of one count of distributing crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of an elementary school after having previously been convicted of a drug felony offense.
Williams admitted he sold crack cocaine on two occasions in October 2008. Both of the sales took place within 1,000 feet of Polk Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. The purchaser was a police informant, and the transactions were monitored by law enforcement. Williams had three prior drug felony convictions.
Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Williams remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Williams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 60 years’ imprisonment, a $4,000,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and at least 6 years and up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Justin Lightfoot and was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force consisting of the DEA; the Linn County Sheriff's Office; the Cedar Rapids Police Department; the Marion Police Department; the Iowa City Police Department; the Clinton Police Department; the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; and the Iowa National Guard.
