A domestic abuser who had three firearms was sentenced today to two years’ probation and is now a convicted felon.

John Repici, age 62, from Anamosa, Iowa, received the sentence after a September 15, 2010, guilty plea to a charge of being a domestic violence misdemeanant in possession of firearms.

Repici was convicted of misdemeanor domestic abuse assault in Linn County, Iowa, on October 18, 2007. Because of that conviction, federal law prohibited him from possessing firearms or ammunition. A December 11, 2008, Anamosa Police Department investigation showed Repici had three long-barreled guns in a small closet in his kitchen.

Repici was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Repici was sentenced to two years’ probation, and a special assessment of $100 was imposed.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Anamosa Police Department.
