Two Sioux City men were sentenced to federal prison on March 22 and April 27, 2011, respectively, for possessing stolen firearms.

Casey Lillie, age 23, of Sioux City, received his prison term after a January 19, 2011, guilty plea, and Coty Devall, age 21, from Sioux City, Iowa, received his prison term after a January 31, 2011 guilty plea. Lillie and Devall each pled guilty to knowingly possessing stolen firearms.

Information provided by the United States at the sentencings and change of plea hearings showed that late on November 21, 2010, Lillie and Devall burglarized a home, which was being remodeled, near Sac City, Iowa. The two stole 20 firearms, ammunition, construction tools, and other items of personal property. As the two men attempted to bring the stolen items into Sioux City, however, they were stopped by law enforcement for a traffic violation. The officer then noticed the stolen firearms, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia, inside the car and initiated a broader investigation. Ultimately, Lillie and Devall confessed to their crimes.

Lillie and Devall were both sentenced in Sioux City. Lillie was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett, and Devall was sentenced to 26 months’ imprisonment by Senior United Stated District Court Juge Donald E. O’Brien. Lillie and Devall must each serve a three-year term of supervised release after they are released from prison, and each must pay a $100 special assessment. There is no parole in the federal system.

Lillie and Devall were both released on bonds previously set and both were directed to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on dates yet to be determined.
