Mason City Man Faces Federal Methamphetamine Charges

Christopher David Douglas, 32, from Mason City, Iowa, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The charges are contained in an Indictment filed on September 29, 2011, in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.

The Indictment alleges that, from about 2006 and continuing through September 23, 2011, Douglas was involved in a conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and on September 23, 2011, Douglas possessed 50 grams or more of pure methamphetamine which he intended to distribute.

For each charge, if convicted, Douglas faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, $100 in special assessment, and no less than five years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Douglas appeared on October 6, 2011, in federal court in Cedar Rapids, and was held without bond. Douglas’s trial date was set for November 28, 2011.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and was investigated by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
