Fort Dodge Woman Pleads Guilty To Meth Conspiracy

A woman who conspired to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine pled guilty October 18, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.

Rachel Clavey, 29, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine, and one count of possession, or aiding and abetting the possession of, 5 grams or more of pure methamphetamine.

At the plea hearing, Clavey admitted that from January 2010 through June 2011 she participated in the manufacture and distribution of more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine in the Webster City, Iowa, and Fort Dodge, Iowa, area. Clavey also admitted that on March 2, 2010, she possessed, or aided and abetted another in the possession of, 5 grams or more of pure methamphetamine. Also, on March 2, 2010, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence occupied by Clavey and co-conspirator Matthew Mueller, and seized 18 grams of pure methamphetamine and a number of items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Clavey was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after the guilty plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing. On the conspiracy conviction, Clavey faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and 5 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment. On the possession conviction, Clavey faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, a $5,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and 4 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Dodge Police Department.
