Rural Alden Iowa Man Arrested On Federal Firearm Charge

Chad Antonio Miller, age 37, from Alden, Iowa, has been charged with one count of being a felon in possession of firearms. The charge is contained in an Indictment, filed November 29, 2012, in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.

The Indictment alleges that up to and including November 6, 2011, Miller possessed a 12 gauge shotgun after he had been convicted of four crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term exeeding one year: two counts of Delivery of Marijuana and one count of Burglary in the Third Degree, in Gundy County, Iowa in January 1996; and Manufacturing Methamphetamine, a Class C felony and Possession of a Precursor, a Class D felony, in Hardin County, Iowa, in May 2006.

If convicted, Miller faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, $200 in special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Miller appeared on December 6, 2012, in federal court in Cedar Rapids and was held without bond. Miller’s next appearance for trial is set for January 28, 2013.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by Franklin County’s Sheriff’s Office.
