A man who robbed the Keokuk County State Bank in Williamsburg, Iowa, on October 20, 2010, was sentenced today to more than 9 years in federal prison.

Ryan Jack Randles, age 38, from Des Moines, Iowa, received the prison term after a September 4, 2012, guilty plea to a one-count indictment charging him with bank robbery and, in the commission of that offense, assaulting another person.

In a plea agreement, Randles admitted that on October 20, 2010, by force and violence or intimidation, he took approximately $5,676 in money from the Keokuk County State Bank, and in the course of the robbery assaulted two people by pointing what appeared to be a firearm at them.

Randles was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Randles was sentenced to 115 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he was ordered to make $5,676 in restitution to Keokuk County State Bank. He must also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after the prison term. The federal prison sentence was imposed to be served consecutively to sentences imposed in the Iowa District Courts for Polk and Iowa Counties for the offenses of Theft in the First Degree. There is no parole in the federal system.

Randles is being held in the custody of the United States Marshals Service until he can be transported back to the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
