A man who transported two boys across state lines to molest them was sentenced December 6, 2012, to life in federal prison.

Michael Goodale, age 31, from Mason City, Iowa, received the sentence after a July 5, 2012, jury verdict finding him guilty of aggravated sexual abuse, interstate transportation of minors for the purpose of engaging in criminal sexual activity, and accessing child pornography.

The evidence at trial showed that, between 2008 and September 2011, Goodale performed sex acts with two boys aged 9-13, in both Iowa and Minnesota. Goodale also viewed child pornography on a laptop computer in 2011.

Goodale was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Goodale was sentenced to life imprisonment. A special assessment of $400 was imposed. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Mason City Police Department.
