
31-Year-Old Sioux City Man Pleads Guilty To Crack & Meth Conspiracy

A man who conspired to distribute crack cocaine and methamphetamine pled guilty October 29, 2012, in federal court in Sioux City.
Terrance Broughton, 31, from Sioux City, Iowa, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and methamphetamine and one count of distribute methamphetamine.
At the plea hearing, Broughton admitted to conspiring to distribute more than 280 grams of crack cocaine and more than 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine which contained more than 5 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine from about 2010 through June 2012. On two occasions in March 2012, Broughton distributed 8 grams of crack cocaine to individuals cooperating with law enforcement. In April and May 2012, Broughton distributed more than 10 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine to individuals cooperating with law enforcement. The distribution in April 2012 occurred within 1000 feet of Cook Park in Sioux City, Iowa.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Broughton remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. On the conspiracy conviction, Broughton faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and at least five years of supervised release following any imprisonment. On the distribution conviction, Broughton faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 80 years’ imprisonment, $10,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and at least eight years of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force based in Sioux City, Iowa, that consists of law enforcement personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration; Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department; Homeland Security Investigations; Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department; Nebraska State Patrol; Iowa National Guard; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; United States Marshals Service; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.
