Woman Who Stole Identities of Prison Volunteers Sentenced
DES MOINES, IA - On May 18, 2012, Shelley Ann Bridges, age 37, of Indianola, Iowa, was sentenced to 48 months of imprisonment for one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of credit card fraud, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Senior United States District Judge Ronald E. Longstaff also ordered Bridges to serve a term of supervised release of 3 years following her incarceration, pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victims Fund, and pay $8,994.38 in restitution.
Bridges obtained personal identifier information of volunteers who participated in a church outreach program at Mitchellville Women’s Correctional Facility. In August and September 2011, Bridges used the personal identifiers of at least 48 volunteers to fraudulently obtain credit accounts with at least five victim financial institutions. Bridges used the fraudulently obtained credit accounts for her own benefit.
This investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Urbandale Police Department, the West Des Moines Police Department, and the Des Moines Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Iowa.
