
Douglas County, Nebraska, Resident Sentenced to 18 Months for Failing to Register as a Sexual Offender
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On Friday, September 28, 2012, Richard Elliot Hansen, age 42, with a last known address in Douglas County, Nebraska, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for failing to register with the sex offender registry. United States District Court Chief Judge James E. Gritzner, also ordered Hansen to serve a five-year term of supervised release following incarceration.
On May 3, 2012, Hansen entered a guilty plea to failing to register with the Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office as required when he began employment in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Law enforcement determined in November of 2011 that Hansen had been employed at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, business for approximately two months without registering with the Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Marshal’s Service, and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
