Two Individuals Sentenced for Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine
DAVENPORT, IA – On April 12, 2012, Sergio Marceleno, age 29, and Antonio Marceleno Fernandez, age 29, both from Mexico, were sentenced to 37 months and 60 months respectively for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge John A Jarvey also sentenced Marceleno to two years of supervised release and Fernandez to four years of supervised release following imprisonment and for each to pay $100 to the Crime Victims Fund. Both had previously entered guilty pleas in federal court for violating Title 21, United States Code, Section 846, for conspiring to distribute cocaine.
In the summer of 2011, the Rock Island, Illinois Police Department began investigating a group of individuals responsible for distributing cocaine in the Quad Cities, and conducted a series of controlled purchases of cocaine from Fernandez. During execution of a search warrant at Fernandez’ home, police seized 290 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, cash, and drug packaging materials. Law enforcement then identified Fernandez’ source in Davenport and learned that Marceleno was also purchasing cocaine from this same source. During the course of the conspiracy, Marceleno and Fernandez both purchased at least 500 grams of cocaine. Fernandez and Marceleno are both Mexican citizens and will be surrendered to Immigration and Customs Enforcement following their term of imprisonment for deportation proceedings to Mexico.
This case was investigated by the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department, the Rock Island, Illinois, Police Department, the Quad Cities, Iowa Metropolitan Enforcement Group, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
