
Man Sentenced For Social Security Fraud
DAVENPORT, IA – On February 21, 2012, Scott Christopher Murphy, age 43, of Clinton, IA, was sentenced to two months imprisonment for making false statements to agents of the United States Social Security Administration, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge Robert W. Pratt also sentenced Murphy to one year supervised release and ordered him to pay $142,949.90 in restitution.
Beginning in 2004 Murphy under reported his wages to the Social Security Administration in order to remain eligible for Social Security Disability payments. Murphy reported his additional wages under his wife’s name and social security number to conceal them from SSA. Between 2004 and 2011 Murphy repeatedly under reported his earnings to agents of the Social Security Administration and collected $142,949.90 in benefits to which he was not entitled.
The case was investigated by the Office of the Inspector General for the Social Security Administration and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
