Lost Nation Man Sentenced on Federal Child Pornography Charges
Davenport, IA - On March 1, 2012, Jason Tyler Potter, age 24, of Lost Nation, Iowa, was sentenced to 188 months imprisonment for receiving and distributing child pornography, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief Judge James E. Gritzner of the United States District Court also ordered that Potter serve a term of supervised release of ten years following his incarceration and pay an assessment of $100 to Crime Victims Fund.
On November 19, 2010, the Scott County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, while conducting a peer to peer (P2P) undercover investigation of trafficking in child pornography, identified an Internet protocol (IP) address with child pornography available for download via file-sharing software. Deputies downloaded seven child pornography videos from this suspect.
The IP address was thereafter linked with Potter’s residence in Lost Nation, Iowa, and a search warrant was executed on January 28, 2011. After waiving his Miranda rights, Potter admitted that he was involved in searching for child pornography on the Internet. Analysis of Potter’s computer revealed numerous child pornography images and videos.
This investigation was conducted by the Scott County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, the Clinton County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, the DeWitt, Iowa, Police Department, the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department, and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
