Council Bluffs Man Sentenced for Felon in Possession of Firearm
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – On September 18, 2012, Andrew James Ring, age 29, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was sentenced in United States District Court in Council Bluffs for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced Ring to 12 months and 1 day in prison, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release. The Court also ordered Ring to pay a $100 special assessment for the Crime Victim Fund. The judge permitted Ring to self-surrender to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to be designated.
Ring was sentenced following his plea of guilty to the charge of felon in possession of a firearm. The charge arose out of an incident in which a motor vehicle operated by Ring struck a parked vehicle near a bar in Council Bluffs on December 5, 2011. Council Bluffs, Iowa, police officers responded and found a rifle and ammunition in Ring’s vehicle. Prior to possessing the rifle, Ring had been convicted of OWI 3rd (an Iowa Class D felony) in Pottawattamie County.
This case was investigated by the Council Bluffs, Iowa, Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
