Wapello Man Sentenced to 120 Months Imprisonment for Drug Offense

DAVENPORT, IA – On August 9, 2012, Jorge Perales Saavedra, age 38, of Wapello, Iowa, was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment for conspiring to distribute cocaine, at least 100 kilograms of marijuana, and at least 50 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also sentenced Saavedra to serve four years supervised release following imprisonment.

From August 2008 through August 2011 on multiple occasions Saavedra directed co-conspirators to travel from Iowa to surrounding states to pick up large quantities of marijuana. Saavedra also enlisted others to receive packages of drugs at their residences. Saavedra distributed marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine in the Wapello, Iowa, area over this time period.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and it was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
