BOISE – Clark Christopher Brown, 30, of Boise, Idaho, was sentenced today in United States District Court to 24 months in prison for possession of firearms after being convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Brown to serve three years of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence. He pled guilty to the charge on December 8, 2011.

According to the plea agreement, on February 18, 2011, several concerned citizens reported that Brown was observed waving firearms around and pointing them in the air as he was walking on North Mitchell Street in Boise. When approached by Boise Police officers, he was found to be in possession of two firearms. Brown told police that he had taken the firearms from a residence earlier that day and that he had consumed several Four Loco alcohol drinks and smoked “spice,” a synthetic form of cannabis. Brown was on probation for a prior misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. Under federal law, persons previously convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are prohibited from possessing any firearms.

The case was investigated by the Boise Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case was prosecuted as part of Idaho's Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho.
