Homedale Man Sentenced for Unlawfully Possessing Firearm
BOISE – Adam Lee Cook, 28, of Homedale, Idaho, was sentenced in federal court today to 100 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Cook to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. Cook pleaded guilty to the charge in April 2011.
According to the plea agreement, Cook was the driver and sole occupant of a vehicle stopped on June 6, 2010, by Caldwell police officers for traffic violations. With probable cause, officers searched the vehicle and discovered a Remington 12 gauge shotgun in the trunk. Cook admitted that he had possession of the shotgun. Cook is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2007 conviction for aggravated battery in Owyhee County, Idaho, a felony offense punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Caldwell Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney hired by the Treasure Valley Partnership and the State of Idaho to address gang crimes. The Treasure Valley Partnership is comprised of a group of elected officials in southeast Idaho dedicated to regional coordination, cooperation, and collaboration on creating coherent regional growth.
