BOISE – John Gable, Jr., 63, of Boise, Idaho, was sentenced in United States District Court today to 18 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for unlawfully possessing a firearm, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Gable to forfeit the firearm found in his possession. He pleaded guilty to the charge on May 14, 2012.

According to the plea agreement, on January 14, 2012, Gable was contacted by Boise Police regarding a verbal altercation at an apartment complex, where he was found in possession of a Ruger .45 semi-automatic pistol. According to court records, Gable is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his January 1993 conviction for racketeering in U.S. District Court in Idaho, a felony offense punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Boise Police Department.

The case was prosecuted as part of Idaho’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho.
