BOISE – Ramon G. Zamarripa, 54, of Twin Falls, Idaho, pleaded guilty today in United States District Court to a superseding information charging him with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Zamarripa withdrew his initial guilty plea on October 29.

The superseding information charged Zamarripa with possessing 48.12 grams of methamphetamine and a .25 caliber handgun on March 12, 2012. Zamarripa admitted in court today that he possessed the methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it and possessed the firearm to facilitate a drug trafficking crime.

The charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of $1 million, and at least three years of supervised release. The charge of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense is punishable by not less than five years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and at least three years of supervised release.

Zamarripa is scheduled for sentencing on January 28, 2013, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.

The case was investigated by the Twin Falls Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
