
Mahomet, Ill. Man Charged with Failure to File Income Tax Returns
Springfield, Ill. – A grand jury today returned an indictment charging a Mahomet, Ill., man, David Michael Diedrich, with three misdemeanor counts of failure to file federal income tax returns. The U.S. Clerk of the Court will issue a summons for Diedrich to appear in federal court at a later date.
According to court documents and the indictment, Diedrich, 48, is charged with failure to file federal income tax returns for 2004, 2005 and 2006. According to the indictment, Diedrich’s gross income for 2004 was approximately $233,600; in 2005, his gross income was approximately $282,800; and in 2006, Diedrich’s gross income was approximately $202,100.
If convicted, each misdemeanor count of failure to file a tax return carries a statutory penalty of up to one year in prison and fine of $25,000.
Members of the public are reminded that an indictment is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The charges are the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly M. Peirson.
