Springfield, IL- A Morgan County man, Scott Lagergren, 50, formerly of Murrayville, Ill., has been ordered to serve five months in federal prison followed by three years supervised release for defrauding a government farm program. U.S. District Judge Richard Mills sentenced Lagergren on June 17, 2011. Lagergren was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $119,172 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Commodity Credit Corporation. Lagergren was ordered to report to the federal Bureau of Prisons on a date to be determined by the BOP to begin serving his prison term.

On Dec. 6, 2010, Lagergren entered a plea of guilty to selling approximately 65,000 bushels of corn, from Feb. 27 to Sept. 23, 2008, that he had pledged as collateral for a $165,583 loan he had received in November 2007 through the Commodity Credit Corporation.

The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason M. Bohm.
