VETERAN PROSECUTOR MIKE WARNER APPOINTED FIRST ASSISTANT TO U.S. ATTORNEY IN THE DISTRICT OF KANSAS

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Veteran federal prosecutor Mike Warner has been appointed First Assistant, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

As First Assistant, Warner will be the second in command of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Kansas, which comprises 49 Assistant U.S. Attorneys and 53 support staff working in offices in Kansas City, Kan., Topeka and Wichita.

“Mike is a perfect fit for our office,” Grissom said. “He is an outstanding prosecutor who has demonstrated honesty, integrity and a strong work ethic throughout his career in public service.”

Since June 1999, Warner has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Missouri. He succeeds Assistant U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker, who is retiring after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Kansas since 2006. Parker joined the Kansas staff in 2002, after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Missouri beginning in 1990.

“Marietta has done an outstanding job and it has been a challenge to find someone who can fill her shoes,” Grissom said.

Warner earned his law degree from Washburn University in 1983 after graduating from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, with a bachelor’s degree in 1975 and a master’s degree in 1976. During the 1990s, Warner was a prosecutor with the Johnson County Attorney’s office. He also has worked for the Kansas Sentencing Commission, the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office and the Harvey County Attorney’s Office.
