KANSAS CITY MAN SENTENCED FOR MORTGAGE FRAUD

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Wildor Washington, Sr., 65, Kansas City, Mo., has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for mortgage fraud, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

A jury found Washington guilty of conspiracy to commit mortgage fraud, one count of wire fraud and one count of mail fraud. During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Washington conspired with co-defendant Emma Jean Holmes to submit fraudulent loan applications to lenders. The loan applications overstated the borrower’s income and other assets, falsely stated that the buyer would occupy the property and falsely stated the borrower was putting up the money for the down payment. Washington aided in submitting fraudulent applications for loans to purchase three houses in Overland Park: one in the 7800 block of West 155th Place, one in the 7900 block of West 155th Place and one in the 15700 block of Birch Street.

Holmes is set for sentencing July 6, 2010.

Welch commended the Internal Revenue Service, Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Oakley, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker for their work on the case.
