SLEEPING DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Kevin Johnson, 61, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for drug trafficking, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. In his plea, Johnson admitted he was asleep in his car, which was parked near a trailer in the 1500 block of North 7th Street in Atchison, Kan., when he was arrested Sept. 17, 2009. Atchison Police took him into custody while they served a search warrant at the residence. In Johnson’s car, police found almost half a pound of methamphetamine packaged for sale in plastic bags. At sentencing, prosecutors noted that in 1994 Johnson was sentenced to 188 months in federal prison in another federal drug case.

Welch commended the Atchison Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Martin for their work on the case.
