WICHITA MAN WHO CALLED 911 TO MAKE A THREAT PLEADS GUILTY TO FIREARMS VIOLATION

WICHITA, KAN. – Darius E. Delonia, 22, Wichita, Kan., has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

In his plea, Delonia admitted that on Sept. 28, 2009, he made a call to 911 dispatch in Sedgwick County, Kan. During the call, he spoke of having a .45-caliber firearm and ammunition to carry out a threat. After he was arrested, officers searched his parents’ home in the 1900 block of South Silver in Wichita, where they found 100 rounds of Remington .45-caliber ammunition. Because of a felony burglary conviction in March 2009 in Sedgwick County District Court, Delonia was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

Sentencing is set for July 19, 2010. Welch commended the Wichita Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster for their work on the case.
