CALIFORNIA TRUCKER INDICTED AFTER ARREST IN GEARY COUNTY ON MARIJUANA CHARGE

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – A California trucker who was arrested in Geary County has been indicted on charges of marijuana trafficking, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Ramon Orozco, 43, Maywood, Calif., is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana. The crime is alleged to have occurred Aug. 28, 2010, in Geary County, Kan.

Orozco initially was charged in state court after the Geary County Sheriff’s Department reported stopping a tractor trailer on I-70 for following too closely. Officers reported they found 830 pounds of marijuana hidden in the truck.

If convicted, Orozco faces a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 40 years in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million. The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard is prosecuting

A federal grand jury meeting in Kansas City, Kan., also returned the following indictments:

Patrick Lee Price, 47, Kansas City, Kan., is charged with one count of distributing methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a drug involved premises, two counts of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Sept. 3, 2010, in Kansas City, Kan.

Upon conviction, the crimes carry the following penalties:
Distributing methamphetamine: A maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
Maintaining a drug involved premises: A maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $500,000.
Possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking: Not less than five years and not more than more than life and a fine up to $250,000 for a first offense. A second conviction carries a penalty of not less than 25 years and not more than life and a fine up to $250,000.
Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine: Not less than 10 years and not more than life and a fine up to $4 million.
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana: A maximum penalty of five years and a fine up to $250,000.
Unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction: A maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000.

Jeffrey M. McCambry, 29, Kansas City, Kan., is charged with two counts of distributing crack cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, two counts of maintaining a drug involved premises, two counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Sept. 9 and Sept 14, 2010, in Kansas City, Kan.

Upon conviction, the crimes carry the following penalties:
Distributing crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine: A maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $1 million on each count.
Maintaining a premises in furtherance of drug trafficking: A maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $500,000.
Possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking: Not less than five years and not more than more than life and a fine up to $250,000 for a first offense. A second conviction carries a penalty of not le ss than 25 years and not more than life and a fine up to $250,000.
Unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction: A maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000.

Jeffrey Wade Buck, 42, Williamsburg, Kan., is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and two counts of distributing methamphetamine. The crimes are alleged to have occurred in February and June 2010 in Franklin County, Kan.

If convicted, he faces a penalty of not less than ten years and not more than life in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million on the possession charge, and a maximum penalty of 20 years on each distributing count. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken is prosecuting.

Sheri L. Zuber, 42, Raytown, Mo., is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The crimes are alleged to have occurred May 28, 2010.

If convicted, she faces a penalty of not less than 10 years and not more than life and a fine up to $4 million on the crack cocaine charge, a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $1 million on the cocaine charge and a maximum penalty of five years and a fine up to $250,000 on the marijuana charge. The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting.

Juan Carlos Medina is charged with one count of failing to appear for a hearing on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The crime is alleged to have occurred Dec. 4, 2006, in Kansas City, Kan.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken is prosecuting.

Oscar Garcia-Delira, 41, a citizen of Mexico, is charged with unlawfully re-entering the United States after being convicted of an aggravated felony and deported. He was found Sept. 10, 2010, in Kansas City, Kan.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leon Patton is prosecuting.

Anthony R. Edwards, 38, Wichita, Kan., and Robert E. Morrow, Jr., 36, Independence, Kan., are charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Sept. 13, 2010, in Lawrence, Kan.

If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The Lawrence Police Department investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting.

Jose Luis Quinones-Anaya, 29, a citizen of Mexico, is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien and one count of unlawfully entering the United States. He was found July 28, 2010, in Topeka, Kan.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the firearm charge and a maximum penalty of six months and a fine up to $5,000 on the charge of illegally entering the country. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot is prosecuting.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
