WICHITA WOMAN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS AFTER POLICE SEIZE MORE THAN 750 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA

WICHITA, KAN. – Christina Childs, 38, Wichita, Kan., has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for drug trafficking after police seized more than 750 pounds of marijuana, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Childs pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. In her plea, she admitted that on Aug. 12, 2009, Wichita police were called to her home at 1001 W. Marlboro in Wichita. Childs and her husband, Jeffrey Childs, had been shot.

A search of 1001 W. Marlboro turned up more than 341 pounds of marijuana more than 6.5 pounds of cocaine and less than a pound of methamphetamine. Police also obtained a search warrant for the home of Ronald Childs, Jeffrey Childs’ father, at 3214 S. Water. At that location, police found more than 412 pounds of marijuana, more than 2.8 pounds of cocaine and half a pound of methamphetamine. Police also found welded metal containers placed in car tires with drugs packaged inside.

Christina Childs admitted she knew about the drugs and aided and abetted her husband in the distribution of the drugs from the Marlboro residence.

Jeffrey Childs is set for sentencing Nov. 17, 2010. Ronald Childs is set for sentencing Dec. 1, 2010.

Grissom commended the Wichita Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their work on the case.
